Car Wreckers NZ, Vehicle Wrecking, Dismantling & Recycling
We’re car wreckers and automotive dismantlers based in Hamilton, working with vehicles that are damaged, old, non-running, written off or simply at the end of their useful life.
We buy vehicles for wrecking, dismantling and recycling, including cars, vans, utes, 4WDs and trucks. We can also arrange free vehicle pickup, take care of the paperwork and process the vehicle through our wrecking and recycling operation.
What Do Car Wreckers Actually Do?
As car wreckers, our job is to get as much usable value as possible from vehicles that are no longer suitable to keep on the road.
Rather than treating the whole vehicle as waste, we assess it for dismantling and recycling. Depending on the vehicle, this can include recovering reusable components, separating recyclable materials and processing the remaining metal.
We work with vehicles at different stages of their life, from accident-damaged cars through to old work utes, vans and vehicles that have been sitting unused for years.
Vehicles We Buy for Wrecking
A vehicle doesn’t need to be running or roadworthy for us to consider it for wrecking. We regularly deal with vehicles that are:
- Accident damaged or written off
- Rusty, incomplete or damaged
- Deregistered or no longer licensed
- Failed a WoF or too expensive to repair
- Non-running or mechanically damaged
- Old commercial vans, utes, 4WDs and trucks
- High kilometre or near the end of their useful life

How Vehicle Dismantling Works
Once a vehicle enters our wrecking operation, we assess what can be recovered before the remaining vehicle is processed for recycling.
The dismantling process generally involves separating the vehicle into different material and component streams. Reusable components can be recovered, fluids and other materials need to be handled correctly, and recyclable metals can be separated from the remaining vehicle.
This is why car wrecking and automotive dismantling are different from simply crushing a vehicle. The aim is to recover useful material before the vehicle reaches the final recycling stage.
Car Recycling and End-of-Life Vehicles
For many older or badly damaged vehicles, wrecking is the final stage of their useful life.
We operate as licensed vehicle recyclers, with vehicles processed for dismantling and recycling rather than simply being left to deteriorate. Where practical, usable components and materials are recovered before the remaining metal is recycled.
This approach can reduce unnecessary automotive waste while allowing useful material from an end-of-life vehicle to remain in circulation.
When Does Wrecking a Vehicle Make Sense?
- The vehicle continues to fail WoFs
- The repair bill is getting close to or above the vehicle's value
- Accident damage is too extensive to repair economically
- Rust or age has made ongoing repairs difficult
- A work vehicle has reached the end of its usable life
You don’t need to decide whether a vehicle is worth dismantling yourself. Tell us what you have and its condition, and we can assess whether it is a vehicle we can purchase for wrecking.

We Frequently Get Asked:
What is the difference between car wreckers and car dismantlers?
The terms are closely related. Car wreckers deal with end-of-life, damaged and unwanted vehicles, while vehicle dismantling describes the process of taking those vehicles apart so usable components and recyclable materials can be recovered.
Do car wreckers buy non-running vehicles?
Yes. We assess non-running vehicles as well as accident-damaged, deregistered, mechanically faulty and end-of-life vehicles.
Can I sell a vehicle with no WoF or registration?
Yes. A current WoF or registration isn’t required for every vehicle we buy for wrecking. Tell us the current status when you request an assessment.
What happens to my vehicle after it is wrecked?
The vehicle is assessed for dismantling. Materials and usable components can be separated and recovered, with the remaining recyclable metal processed through the recycling stream.
Do you wreck vans, utes and trucks as well as cars?
Yes. We assess cars, vans, utes, 4WDs, SUVs and a range of commercial vehicles for wrecking and recycling.
